Mrs. Blake

4th Grade

Mrs. Blake has been teaching for 15 years.  She began her career at Climax-Scotts Schools.  Mrs. Blake’s favorite hobbies are walking and listening to books on tape. She has two daughters, Angie & Ellie, and one son, Jake.  Mrs. Blake also has four grand-children, and her husband recently retired. 

Fourth Grade Science Curriculum:
Scientific Inquiry; Earth and Space; Mixtures, Solutions, and Suspensions; Magnets and Magnetism; Static and Current Electricity; Physical Science Forms of Energy; Rocks and Minerals; Ecosystems and Life Requirements; Animal Adaptations; and Properties of Matter.

 

Mr. Washburn

4th Grade

Mr. Washburn teaches fourth grade math at G-A Intermediate. He is in his seventh year of teaching, and he spent his first year teaching at Marcellus.  He and his wife are blessed with four children, and he says spending time with his family is his favorite activity. 

Fourth Grade Math Curriculum:
Place Value; Decimals; Fractions; Measurement; Multiplication Facts; Perimeter and Area; Geometry Shapes-Isosceles, Equilateral, Right Triangles; Faces, Edges, and Vertices; Cubes, Pyramids, and Prisms; Perpendicular and Parallel lines; Graphing.

Ms. Adams

4th Grade

Ms. Adams teaches Social Studies and she has been with Galesburg-Augusta for 34 years.  She has two dogs, Toby and Zepelin, and one cat, Austin.  Ms. Adams’ favorite hobby is hiking with her dogs.

Fourth Grade Social Studies Curriculum:
The World in Spatial Terms; Places and Regions; Values and Principles of American Democracy; Structure and Functions of Government; Roles of the Citizen in American Government; Market Economy; Public Discourse, Decision Making and Citizen Involvment; History of American Indians and the Early Settlers; Interactions Between American Indians and European Explorers/Settlers; History of Michigan: Settlement and Statehood; Sequence of Early History; Underground Railroad; Resources, Industries, and Cities of Michigan;  and the Sequence of Later History.
Mrs. Headley

5th Grade

Mrs. Headley has been teaching math at the Intermediate for four years, and she also spent one year at our Primary building.  Mrs. Headley has two daughters, Isabelle and Grace, and she enjoys taking them to the park in her spare time. Isabelle and Grace love to play with their dog Cleo and their cat, Wylie.  Mrs. Headley also enjoys attending plays and collecting Christmas decorations.  

Fifth Grade Math Curriculum:
Place value & whole numbers and decimals;  Multiplying whole numbers;  Division;  Measurement;  Graphing; Fractions;  Add/Subtract decimals; Multiplying decimals;  Geometry; Perimeter, Area, Circumference; Percents; Probability; Ratios
 

Mrs. Muselin

5th Grade

 

Mrs. Muselin is our Social Studies teacher, and this is her second year at the Intermediate. Mrs. Muselin graduated from G-A in 2001 and is very excited about returning as a teacher.   Last year she taught Science in fourth grade, and our G-A Rams students are thrilled to have her back this year as a fifth grade teacher!  Mrs. Muselin enjoys golfing and spending time with her family and friends.  She has two cats, Sami & Belle.

Fifth Grade Social Studies Curriculum: 
The students will be doing Daily Oral Geography everyday and will be tested over it every two weeks. They will also be learning about the following: American Indian Life--Southwest, Pacific, Northwest, Great Plains, Eastern Woodland -- way of life, locations, and modifications of American Indians; Euorpeaon Explorations - ID new ideas in Europe and affects of exploration; African life prior to 16th century -major regions of Africa and the life and cultural development of people; Interactions among European, African and American Indian people (late 15th century - 17th century); Regional Settlement patterns and development in Southern New England and mid-Atlantic; European slave trade;  Life in colonial America; Causes of the American Revolution; Consequences of the American Revolution;  Purposes of government, creating a new government, and the U.S. Constitution.

Mrs. Johnson

5th Grade

 

Mrs. Johnson teaches fifth grade writing, and she has been at G-A for 11 years.  Prior to becoming a teacher, Mrs. Johnson coached gymnastics for 10 years.  She has two young children, Sam, a first grader at G-A,  and Stephanie, a pre-schooler.  Her favorite things to do include mountain biking, reading, and spending time with her children.

The Fifth Grade Writing Curriculum:
Narrative writing – Summer Bummer; MEAP – Editing; Organization of narrative stories;  Using 6 –trait “voice” in story writing;  “Stop-Light” paragraphs – learning how to paragragh;  Non-fiction writing; Business letter writing; Sentence writing & word choice; Research paper writing; Grammar usage;  Descriptive writing;  Poetry using descriptive words;  Persuasive writing and editing.

Mrs. Peters

5th Grade

Mrs. Peters is our Science teacher.  This is her third year at Galesburg-Augusta, and she also spent four years teaching at Comstock Public Schools. Mrs. Peters has two sons, both in college, and in her spare time she enjoys reading, biking, camping, and spending time with her family and friends. She also has two English Springer Spaniels, Sadie and Abby.                                

Fifth Grade Science Curriculum:
Natural Resources—Renewable, Re-usable, Non-Renewable, & Conservation;  Rock Cycle: How Rocks Form, Types of Rocks, & Fossils; Changes to Earth's Surface: Landforms, Continental Drift Theory, Pangea, Volcanoes, Landslides, Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Weathering, Erosion, Mining, etc;  Water Cycle, Carbon-Dioxide/Oxygen Cycle, & Nitrogen Cycle;  Weather, Atmosphere, Wind & Clouds;  Solar System, Sun & Other Stars, Inventions & inventors.
